由郑晓龙导演的描述宫廷内斗的电视连续剧《甄嬛传》不仅在大陆收视率极高，在台湾，韩国和新加坡也极受观众欢迎。
《人民日报》这篇署名陶东风的文章说，近年来，一些领域的道德状况令人担忧：犬儒主义盛行，人际关系恶化，社会诚信缺失，一些人出于私立，不是努力去疗救它，修复它，而是参与到对它的进一步破坏中。
文章指出这些人并不是没有能力辨别是非，而是选择作恶，这种社会风气折射到近年流行的官场小说和宫廷剧中。
文章说，《甄嬛传》传播和宣扬的价值观就是犬儒主义和投机主义。

陶东风在文章中指出，许多观众以甄嬛为榜样，选择以恶抗恶，并称“这是我们这个时代的悲剧，这种犬儒主义和投机活动的大面积泛滥，将会对社会道德造成巨大腐蚀。”
文章说，要改变现状，必须弘扬社会主义核心价值观，培育诚信文化，这需要有载体，需要靠人去躬行，文艺作品肩负着重要使命，“必须以高尚的精神塑造人，以优秀的作品鼓舞人。”
陶东风是首都师范大学中文系教授，专注中国文艺和文化研究。他的这篇文章在《人民日报》发表后在网上广为传播。但是，许多网友在微博上就这篇文章发表不同看法，显示党的喉舌已经不能完全霸占话语权。
